Welcome to my Blog

If you are reading this blog, then odds are you know me fairly well.  We grew up together, are related to me or we have been friends for some time now.  So, I have started this blog to share my adapting to a new country, a new language, a new culture and a new way of life.  The first posts will make you laugh with me at some of the silly things that are now becoming a way of life for me.

I would be remiss if I did not first and foremost thank my beautiful & talented Bride Ilka for setting up this blog, hosting it on her personal domain and placing a few posts for me.  Without her help, advice & assistance this would be a Facebook page that maybe only 70% of my audience would be able to view.

These first posts will not be chronological order as I have been living here and experiencing things at a dizzying pace since my arrival almost two weeks ago.  In addition, to be totally honest I do need to revisit a few places to take photos, as I did not have a camera or phone to carry for about the first week.

Another thing I want to mention is that I will in order to adapt I will be using both the metric system & the European way of time, using a 24 hour clock.  I will use the US system in parenthesis to make it easier to keep up.

One last note, I will often use NL as shorthand for the Netherlands, it is in common use here, much like the US is common for United States.

Now that we have the housekeeping part of the blog out of the way, let the posts begin!

Congratulations, on your move to NL. I and my family lived in Europe for a total of 6 years (1960-1963 & 1970-1973). We were stationed in Germany (Kassel and Augsburg) with the US Army and have many fond memories! We traveled all over. But I am sure that it is different for you as we knew when we went over exactly when we would return. May GOD bless YOU in your new environment! MERRY Christmas to you and your new family!

  5. So good to hear from you! I am so excited to follow you on your new adventure with your new life! Please say “hello” to Ilka for us!
